Welcome to our current IVPDA show, FASHION OF THE TIMES.
This Exhibition reflects how Fashion mirrors and illuminates many different aspects of our Society and our Times. We have really come a long way from the Victorian era corsets to the "sisterhood of the traveling pant-suits".
Fashions that immediately summon up a bold visual image are the Victorian (1900's), oh so prim and proper; 1910's with it's Dough Boys in uniform, Clara Bow (1920's) with that unforgettable page boy haircut; 1930's Art Deco, World War II era with the Rosie the Riveters working outside of the home en mass for the first time; 1950's with the ubiquitious hats worn by men and ladies, 1960's Hippy bellbottoms and paisley prints; 1970's "Grease" era and the 1980's MTV era. Seems like yesterday (1990's) with the shoulder pads and big hair left over from the 80's. Remember Alexis and Crystal, OMG!
In art nouveau, travel, political, movie, product, psychedelic and other posters images of what was fashionable at the time was always there.
Whether we lived through or just enjoyed on television or in the movies, i.e. Up Stairs, Down Stairs or Saturday Night Fever, fashion can be fun. Not just dressing up but reliving the memories or reflecting on times long gone by. In Noel Coward's wonderful melody " You are the Top" we can share all those wonderful fashionable themes, many which are still timeless today.
These posters shown here, some with great flourish and some with subtlety, help us enjoy these times.
Our worldwide IVPDA Membership presents this Show until the end of November.
